Mercoledì 22 ottobre alle ore 16:00 , il Prof. Matt Gursky (University of Notre Dame) terrà un Colloquium di Matematica dal titolo "Einstein metrics: (non)-existence and rigidity questions".
Abstract:
In this talk I will give an overview of some aspects of the existence problem for Einstein metrics (in the real setting).
I will begin with some classical results going back to Gauss and Riemann, then explain Hilbert's observation that the Einstein condition is actually variational. I will then highlight some existence and non-existence results in the compact setting, which illustrate why dimension four is special.
Finally, I will talk a little about the complete setting, and Einstein metrics which 'look like' hyperbolic space at infinity.
Il seminario si svolgerà in presenza presso il Dipartimento di Matematica e Fisica, Lungotevere Dante 376, aula M1.
