On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at 3:00 p.m., the Department of Humanities (Room C2 – Via Ostiense 234/236) will host the official presentation of Posidonia. A book Series of Island Studies, a new Open Access publishing project issued by Roma TrE-Press. The event is part of the research project Islands 4 Future (PRIN 2022, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU).
Directed by Arturo Gallia (Roma Tre University), the book series was conceived with the aim of providing an innovative, high-quality editorial framework dedicated to island and marine studies. Inspired by the vital role of Posidonia oceanica in Mediterranean ecosystems, the series seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and to enhance research of early-career scholars. It welcomes contributions from the historical, geographical, archaeological, artistic, literary and educational disciplines, with special attention to critical debate, subaltern studies and future studies.
The book series is inaugurated by the edited volume Islands as Crossroads. Reimagining Mobilities in the Mediterranean (2025), edited by Giovanna Di Matteo, which offers a reappraisal of Mediterranean island dynamics by moving beyond static perspectives and restoring islands as spaces of connection, mobility and archipelagic networks.
The meeting will open with institutional greetings, followed by the presentation of the book series and the volume.
Speakers include:
- Arturo Gallia (Roma Tre University)
- Stefano Malatesta (University of Milan–Bicocca)
- Chiara Certomà (Sapienza University of Rome)
- Gennaro Gervasio (Roma Tre University)
- Giovanna Di Matteo (Gran Sasso Science Institute)
